About The Position

The Strategic Space Systems (S3) team at Viasat in Tempe, Arizona is responsible for development of full lifecycle space programs with varying scope, from chip scale to full-on space missions. Our programs provide key capabilities for the US government as well as commercial end-users. Programs in the business area are far-reaching and impactful - enabling the US and the world in commercial and defense applications like resilient space communications and networking, remote sensing, and much more. The S3 team is primarily composed of a small group of highly skilled cross-domain engineers who take on challenging problems daily. As a Program Manager, you will lead multiple, concurrent space flight hardware manufacturing and test programs. The ideal candidate will build and maintain strong customer relationships, lead a multi-functional engineering and operations team, ensure successful program execution through disciplined cost, schedule, and risk management, drive proposal activities, and champion continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • A minimum of six (6) years of progressive professional experience in program management or project execution roles.
  • Demonstrated experience with manufacturing and test of space flight hardware.
  • Demonstrated experience with procurement of space flight printed wiring board assemblies.
  • Validated ability to work independently to define and resolve complex problems, anticipate future program needs, and establish meaningful metrics to measure success.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively to diverse collaborators.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in engineering, science, or a related technical field.
  • U.S. citizenship.

Nice To Haves

  • Active U.S. Government security clearance, with SSBI/SCI eligibility.
  • Program Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent.
  • Master’s degree in a relevant engineering, science, or business field.
  • Experience leading concurrent operations programs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead multiple, concurrent space flight hardware manufacturing and test programs.

  • Lead a highly capable, multi-functional team responsible for the procurement, manufacturing, test and delivery of advanced satellite communications solutions.
  • Apply earned value management (EVM) and risk management techniques to effectively plan, monitor, and control program cost, schedule, and performance.
  • Collaborate with functional and matrixed leadership to ensure timely and appropriate allocation of personnel and resources in support of program execution.
  • Develop detailed build plans, complete complex procurement activities, manage and direct contract manufacturers, management in house manufacturing builds and manage test and delivery of hardware.
  • Provide accurate, timely program execution, financial status, and risk reporting to senior leadership, external customers and key collaborators.
  • Support capture and business development activities by leading proposal cost estimates and contributing program management and execution content.
