About The Position

The Strategic Project Engineering Manager is responsible for developing preliminary designs and specifications for engineering and materials, preparing project cost estimates, and conducting research, feasibility studies, and economic studies to ensure designs are viable and cost-effective. This role involves determining design criteria based on standards and codes, validating field work, and creating as-built drawings. The manager will review engineering projects for accuracy, manage project execution by guiding vendors and contractors, and coordinate project schedules with all stakeholders. They will also provide direction to equipment vendors for layouts and utility requirements, review consultant work products, and maintain comprehensive project documentation. Additionally, the role includes conducting engineering planning and reviews, determining scope of work, preparing and evaluating requests for proposals, and submitting detailed reports to management. Contract administration, budget management, and continuous improvement of robotic and controls knowledge are also key aspects of this position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • 2+ years’ experience in a position of leadership, including team development and management.
  • Ability to apply sound engineering principles to operational and design issues.
  • Knowledge of installation and construction project scheduling.
  • Lay out and design experience.
  • Experience managing a multi-million dollar budget.
  • Project Management skills.
  • Contract Administration skills.
  • National codes and standards interpretation skills.
  • Proficient in engineering economics.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel spreadsheet software and Word processing software, other Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to travel to other locations (50% of the time).
  • Knowledge of engineering principles and techniques related to food processing and the meat industry.
  • Previous experience in the management of multi-million dollar projects with large scopes.
  • Ability to work well with others in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Developing preliminary designs and specifications for engineering and materials.

  • Reviewing and checking engineering projects for accuracy and soundness.

  • Coordinating and providing direction to equipment vendors for layouts and utility requirements.
  • Maintaining installation schedules.
  • Reviewing work products submitted by consultants and offering recommendations.
  • Maintaining comprehensive documentation, including equipment manuals, drawings, parts lists, specifications, and vendor contact information.
  • Conducting engineering planning, design, and operational reviews during pre-project studies.
  • Determining the scope of work, preparing requests for proposals, and evaluating proposals.
  • Submitting detailed reports to management by established deadlines.
  • Administering contracts, including reviewing bid packages for compliance and completeness.
  • Preparing project documents such as justifications, budget analyses, calculations, plans, and schedules.
  • Monitoring installations to ensure proposal specifications and budgets are met.
  • Managing assigned budget activities to maintain financial control and accountability.
  • Continuously improving robotic and controls knowledge to execute innovative solutions.
