About The Position

We have an exciting opportunity within our City Planning and Development business unit for an experienced Strategic Planner to join the team! The focus of Council’s Urban Strategy and Planning team is to prepare and update the strategic planning framework for Cumberland, as well as responding to the metropolitan and district planning priorities. The Strategic Planner supports the development and implementation of the long term land use vision for the Cumberland area. This includes Cumberland City’s planning controls, corridor and precinct plans, council initiated planning proposals, planning agreements and strategic planning and land use advice. The Strategic Planner will also contribute to the overall effective operation of the Environment and Planning Directorate.

Requirements

  • Completed degree in Town Planning or equivalent, or students working towards their degree with completion within 12 months.
  • Understanding of urban planning, including planning proposals and the NSW planning system.
  • Understanding of the relevant NSW planning legislation, with motivation to learn.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking, analytical and research skills.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, including demonstrated sound reporting writing skills.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work positively in a team environment.
  • Strong time management and organisation skills, including the ability to work independently, and complete tasks within established timeframes.
  • The right to live and work in Australia.
  • Be able to provide information for pre-employment checks required for the position, including attending a physical pre-employment medical examination as required.
  • Participate in health monitoring as outlined in the risk assessment for this position and Council’s Health Monitoring Procedure, as required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and update the strategic planning framework for Cumberland.
  • Respond to metropolitan and district planning priorities.
  • Support the development and implementation of the long term land use vision for the Cumberland area.
  • Manage Cumberland City’s planning controls, corridor and precinct plans, council initiated planning proposals, and planning agreements.
  • Provide strategic planning and land use advice.
  • Contribute to the overall effective operation of the Environment and Planning Directorate.
