About The Position

The San Francisco-Marin Food Bank is seeking a skilled Strategic Marketing & Communications Manager to join their development team. This role reports to the Director of Marketing & Communications and is responsible for developing and implementing integrated marketing and communications strategies to advance the Food Bank’s strategic goals. The manager will oversee content creation, execute the annual marketing and communications plan, build awareness, generate external support, and inspire engagement in areas like fundraising, volunteer engagement, and advocacy. This role also leads strategic message development and editorial content planning, ensuring all content is brand-aligned, equity-centered, and reflects the organization's impact. The Strategic Marketing & Communications Manager directly supervises a Senior Social Media Specialist and a Writer & Content Specialist, mentoring them to deliver high-quality storytelling.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of communications and/or marketing experience, preferably in a nonprofit or related organization.
  • 3+ years of direct experience supervising marketing and communications team members.
  • Strong creative, writing, editing, storytelling, and strategic planning skills.
  • Ability to collaborate across teams and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong project management and change management skills.
  • Experience working in diverse and equity-centered environments.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements integrated marketing and communications strategies, plans, content, and tools.
  • Oversees content creation and execution of the annual integrated marketing and communications plan.
  • Builds awareness, generates external support, and inspires engagement across key focus areas.
  • Leads strategic message development and editorial content planning for external audiences.
  • Ensures all content is brand-aligned, equity-centered, and reflective of the Food Bank’s strategic plan and community impact.
  • Mentors and collaborates with direct reports to deliver high-quality storytelling.
  • Understands the issue of food insecurity on local and national levels, including corresponding advocacy and policy-related concerns.
  • Leads the development, planning, coordination, and implementation of the Food Bank's annual integrated marketing and communications plan.
  • Ensures team reports deliver creative and persuasive content to achieve strategic priorities.
  • Leads the effort to understand, interpret, publish, and communicate organizational statistical reporting and creation of messaging for external audiences.
  • Serves as the lead content editor of the Food Bank's external publications.
  • Provides inter-departmental support across the Food Bank to ensure strategic brand marketing and communications message alignment.
  • Drives the organization’s earned and owned media strategy.
  • Direct management and supervision of two staff members.
  • Provide editorial guidance on development-related content, policy & advocacy initiatives, and executive communications.
  • Responsible for strategic oversight, guidance, and assignment of various comms tools and documents.
  • Oversee the processes and systems of the department to support communications and marketing services to other teams.
