About NCG Northern California Grantmakers (NCG) is a dynamic, growing membership organization that brings the philanthropic community together to shift resources, capital, and power back to historically marginalized communities that are leading transformational change. Northern California has a rich cultural legacy and commitment to social justice. NCG’s membership is made up of stakeholders across philanthropy including program officers, board members, donor trustees, movement organizers, communicators, visionaries, advocates, dreamers, and believers. We started as the “Lunch Bunch” in the 1960s, a group of philanthropic leaders committed to growing together. We formalized ourselves in the 1980s with the goal of supporting a base of philanthropic members. Currently we have more than 195 institutional and 4,000 individual members. Position Summary We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team as the Strategic Initiatives Coordinator. This role requires a person with strong execution skills and detail orientation, the ability to work effectively with a range of external and internal partners, and the acumen to support various strategic initiatives. The ideal candidate will identify with the goals and mission of NCG and believe in the power of people coming together for change. While a part of the six-person Strategic Initiatives Team, the Coordinator is also expected to support the Communications and Member Engagement teams as appropriate. A successful candidate will need to blend flexibility with disciplined execution and strong self-awareness and confidence in operating through formal and informal channels. NCG’s work recognizes the critical importance of centering racial equity, movement building strategies, and the leadership of movement organizations to advance democracy and promote equitable public policy. The Coordinator must embrace racial equity as a core value, demonstrate high emotional intelligence to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds, and positively contribute to NCG’s culture as an organization committed to racial and economic justice.

Requirements

  • Minimum three years of work experience.
  • Minimum a bachelor’s degree or equivalent life experience in public policy, public affairs, public administration, or related fields.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to translate mistakes into lessons learned, anticipate future needs, and take action.
  • Strong project management with the ability to organize, prioritize, and manage complex, multidimensional projects to successful completion within desired timeframes and to define goals, meet urgent deadlines, organize, and prioritize projects.
  • Technical acumen, including Salesforce, Asana, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to learn and adapt quickly to virtual communications and collaborative applications.
  • Must be located in the greater San Francisco Bay Area with the ability to travel throughout the region as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Track and monitor activities, meetings, and deliverable for major projects and provide follow-up, as needed.
  • Conduct research on issues/topics to support programs, collaboratives and other efforts.
  • Draft program descriptions, supporting documentation, and other communication.
  • Coordinate with other departments to facilitate the development of communications collateral and program delivery.
  • Support the identification of speakers and policy and subject matter experts.
  • Participate in the delivery of special projects advanced by the team.
  • Coordinate with Communications and Member Engagement in scheduling, coordination and administration of programs communities of practice.
  • Respond to member & program inquiries related to achieving organizational goals.
  • Provide basic day-to-day administration on online functionalities, including coordination of program logistics, registering users for events, running standard reports, and additional administrative support as needed.
  • Coordinate meeting logistics including technology, Zoom Video conferencing, meeting space, etc.
  • Provide administrative support to the VP for Strategic Initiatives as needed.
  • Perform general administrative duties (communications, mail, copying, filing, etc.).
  • Support internal programs and meetings with a variety of responsibilities, that may include and are not limited to; meeting setup/cleanup, meal arrangement, and guest management.
  • Support logistical components of NCG events, such as CPI, Annual Conference, New Grantmakers Institute, and other briefings as assigned.
  • Support the President and CEO with occasional scheduling and special projects.
