About The Position

The Strategic Finance Manager supports the Strategic Finance function for MPC and MPLX and serves as a key financial advisor on enterprise growth, capital deployment, and investment decisions. This role partners closely with executive leadership, including the CEO and CFO, and manages strategic relationships across Business Development, Strategy, and Operating Business Units to evaluate acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, organic growth opportunities, and overall portfolio performance. The position is responsible for directing complex financial modeling, investment analysis, and capital allocation assessments while ensuring alignment across Finance, Treasury, Economics, Business Planning & Analysis, Credit, Insurance, Tax, and Accounting. The Strategic Finance Manager provides oversight of the Authorization Request (AR) process for significant capital investments, facilitating the review, evaluation, and approval of projects presented to senior management and the Board of Directors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics or Accounting required.
  • Eight (8) or more years of experience in Finance, Economics or Accounting required.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience with financial modeling and/or analytical analysis preferred.
  • 2 years of experience of Clean Product Marketing experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the Refining, Midstream, Marketing or Renewables Strategic Finance Business Unit and interacts frequently with executive management, including CEO and CFO, manages the relationship with the MPC or MPLX Business Development, Strategy and Operating Business Unit groups in modeling and analytics related to growth initiatives and investments including all capital deployment, including small acquisitions, divestitures and joint ventures and portfolio assessment analytics.
  • Responsible for coordinating and aligning activities with Business Development, Strategy, Operating Business Units, MPC Economics, Finance, BP&A, Treasury, Credit, Insurance Tax and Accounting.
  • Oversight for the Authorization Request (AR) process which entails systematic evaluation of all investments over $5 MM within the Refining, Midstream, Marketing or Renewables segment and the review and submission for approval to senior management or the Board of Directors for the approval of such projects.
  • Supports financial and modeling discussions with consultants, advisors and investment banks on specific project engagements.
  • Responsible for development, training and mentoring analysts and elevating the business acumen of Refining, Midstream, Marketing or Renewables within Strategic Finance. Should be viewed as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) within the MPC, MPLX or Renewables Strategic Finance Business Unit and understand key business drivers in potential investments and understands economic evaluation methods and practices of other companies to determine if such methods or practices could be utilized; researches and keeps abreast of current developments in financial evaluation techniques and financing.
  • Maintain, enhance and improve the robust analysis of the risk factors for most projects as well as common risks among the portfolio of projects. Incorporates methods including, but not limited to, scenario analysis (various long term economic outlooks and assumptions), sensitivity analysis with low, medium and high cases and Monte Carlo analysis.
