Strategic Finance Lead

ComunNew York, NY
$170,000 - $210,000Hybrid

About The Position

Comun is seeking a Strategic Finance Lead to manage financial planning, treasury, and the commercial aspects of vendor and banking relationships. This high-autonomy role reports directly to the founders and focuses on operating as the company's finance lead, rather than managing a large team or accounting operations. The role involves working with the controller, product, and growth teams to achieve financial goals. The finance function is AI-first, prioritizing automation before headcount. The position offers opportunities for growth into fundraising support and strategic projects with the founders.

Requirements

  • 5–8 years in finance, ideally starting in investment banking, private equity, or management consulting, followed by strategic finance or FP&A at a startup.
  • Strong financial modeling skills — ability to build clean, driver-based models and defend all numbers.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and ownership — preference for leading workstreams end-to-end.
  • AI-fluent: experience using tools like Claude and a perspective on finance workflow automation.
  • Spanish is a plus.
  • An interest in serving an underserved community.

Nice To Haves

  • Commercial instincts: experience negotiating (or supporting negotiation of) vendor, partner, or banking agreements is a strong plus.
  • Fintech experience, particularly with card programs, sponsor banks, or payments economics, is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Financial planning and analysis: Develop and maintain the operating model, 18-month budget, monthly forecasting, and reporting to founders and the board.
  • Treasury and cash management: Manage cash positioning across multiple bank accounts, oversee credit facility management and covenant compliance, and handle liquidity planning, including a 13-week rolling cash flow forecast.
  • Vendor and partner negotiations: Lead commercial negotiations for key vendor contracts and banking/processing partnerships, including cost modeling and executed terms.
  • Pricing strategy: Analyze product-level unit economics, interchange dynamics, and manage margins across card and payments products.
