Strategic Finance & Business Operations
About The Position
HappyRobot is seeking its first Strategic Finance & Business Operations hire to establish the finance function and lead impactful cross-functional projects. This role combines strategic finance (50%) and business operations (50%), reporting to the Head of Finance. The ideal candidate will possess the analytical skills of investment banking or private equity combined with the adaptability of an early-stage operator, capable of both complex financial modeling and vendor negotiations. This is a highly visible role, directly influencing company strategy with data-driven insights.
Requirements
- 2 to 5 years of experience in investment banking, private equity, or consulting, followed by experience at a high-growth technology company (Series A to D preferred).
- Extensive experience building financial models; proficiency in Excel and Google Sheets.
- Ability to thrive in ambiguity and create playbooks.
- High agency and low ego; willingness to handle diverse tasks from strategic to operational.
- Exceptional judgment and prioritization skills.
- Strong communication skills, capable of distilling complexity into actionable recommendations.
- SQL proficiency required.
- Comfort operating with incomplete information and making decisions quickly.
- Takes ownership of outcomes, not just tasks.
Nice To Haves
- Python or BI tools are a plus.
Responsibilities
- Build dashboards and reporting for real-time leadership visibility into revenue, burn, unit economics, and key operating metrics.
- Own financial planning and analysis, including annual planning, rolling forecasts, and headcount modeling.
- Support fundraising, investor relations, and strategic transactions (M&A, partnerships) with data-driven analysis.
- Develop and maintain financial infrastructure for efficient scaling.
- Undertake high-priority, ambiguous projects such as pricing strategy, market analysis, new market entry, partnership evaluation, and sales compensation design.
- Build operational infrastructure and processes (systems, workflows, playbooks) for company scaling.
- Partner cross-functionally with Sales, Marketing, Product, and Engineering to apply financial and analytical rigor to business decisions.
- Drive procurement, vendor evaluation, and cost optimization.
- Identify and resolve operational bottlenecks proactively.
