About The Position

American Promise is a national campaign dedicated to advancing a constitutional amendment that empowers states and Congress to set reasonable limits on campaign money, addressing the public's concern about the influence of big money in politics. The organization is seeking a Strategic Communications Specialist to bolster its state-level communications and media relations efforts. This role will work closely with state leaders and the partnerships team, acting as a key communications partner to internal teams. The Specialist will report to the Chief Communications Officer and will be instrumental in developing state-level messaging, pitching stories, placing op-eds, securing press coverage for legislative achievements and organizational milestones, and managing daily communications execution. The position also involves broader communication tasks such as social media, message development, and content creation to support the organization's mission. The amendment's ratification requires broad support, necessitating a communications strategy that can engage and mobilize Americans across the political spectrum. The organization's strategy emphasizes state-based momentum, with 24 states already having formally called for the amendment. This role offers a significant opportunity to enhance the organization's profile at local, state, and national levels. The ideal candidate is a proactive individual comfortable in a remote work environment and adept at collaborating with remote teams.
