About The Position

The Strategic Communications Specialist will support the Director, Strategic Communications in developing and implementing rapid response strategies for the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) vaccine communications work. This role involves assisting in the creation of messages for diverse audiences to address breaking news, crises, misinformation, and other urgent communication needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or related discipline or an equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience.
  • At least three years’ related experience in communications or public relations.

Responsibilities

  • Support strategic communications efforts within the vaccine communications rapid response hub, including coordinating external vendors to promote AAP's voice on vaccine confidence and combat misinformation.
  • Assist in rapid response activities by drafting statements, talking points, website content, and social media messages for various audiences, and customizing materials from partners to ensure alignment with campaign goals and AAP strategy.
  • Track project deliverables for internal and external stakeholders to ensure accountability and contribute to project management processes for grant deliverables and workflows.
  • Help develop presentations and materials to promote effective vaccine communications strategies to external organizations and AAP members.
  • Support media spokespeople and subject matter experts by providing them with materials and messages on vaccine rapid response issues.
  • Track key metrics to measure success and progress, collaborate on reports for AAP leadership and external partners, and specifically lead the writing and coordination of weekly and contribute to monthly/quarterly funder reports.
  • Build relationships with internal staff across different work streams to collaborate on innovative communication approaches and advance strategic priorities.
  • Collaborate with AAP staff and member leaders to ensure diverse voices and perspectives are reflected in strategic communications activities.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
