About The Position

One Federal Solution is seeking a Strategic Communications Specialist III to support the documentation, preservation, communication, and outreach of ONR’s historical scientific achievements and organizational accomplishments. The Strategic Communications Specialist III will conduct archival research, develop strategic communications products, support senior leadership, and translate historical, operational, and scientific information into clear and compelling communications for internal and external audiences.

Requirements

• At least ten (10) years of experience as a communicator or writer in support of various unique, specialized organizational goals.
• A two (2) page writing sample of a previously published professional publication or article, which shall be attached to the resume.
• Working knowledge and experience publishing content on social media platforms including X (Twitter), YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and Flickr.
• People-oriented and objective, communicating well with different personality types to coordinate and develop well-written messaging and coherent briefs for the Chief of Naval Research and other Flag-level leadership.
• Proven experience of leading from behind and the ability to think ahead to deliver exceptional C-suite staff work.
• Ability to bridge operational and S&T activities with current knowledge of relationships between the Navy and Marine Corps to translate knowledge and data into superior communications products for use by senior leadership.
• Thoroughly familiar and proficient in the use of commercial software packages such as Adobe InDesign Suite and Microsoft Office products.
• Knowledge and experience documenting, editing, and archiving historical information in accordance with DoD’s Records Management Program.
• Demonstrated competence representing organizations of departmental, national, and international interests via multimedia and face-to-face venues, such as print, broadcast, and exhibit formats.
• Working level knowledge of video streaming is required.
• Ability to convey meaningful messages related to the organizational mission of scientific research, technology discovery, and invention that leads to transition to the acquisition community.
• Ability to effectively write, edit, and publish newsletters and other publications.
• Excellent professional writing and verbal communication skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, or a related field from a fully accredited institution and at least ten (10) years of experience in a strategic communications or social media management role providing public affairs support in a professional communications environment.

Responsibilities

• Document ONR’s historical scientific achievements, establishing foundational scientific linkages between previous ONR investments and current products, systems, and operational doctrine, and memorialize those achievements.
• Conduct archival research to build greater understanding of past accomplishments and connect them to the present, creating a range of products and outreach programs dealing with historical programs.
• Ensure current documents and personal experiences at ONR are compiled and analyzed comprehensively; systematically examine documents on current programs to build understanding of ONR’s accomplishments.
• Create command publications, articles, monographs, oral histories, video documentaries, educational teaching aids, and other materials.
• Attendance and participation in both CLASSIFIED and UNCLASSIFIED meetings with senior leadership.
• Bridge operational and S&T activities with current knowledge of relationships between the Navy and Marine Corps to translate knowledge and data into superior communications products for use by senior leadership.
• Represent organizations of departmental, national, and international interests via multimedia and face-to-face venues, such as print, broadcast, and exhibit formats.
• Convey meaningful messages related to the organizational mission of scientific research, technology discovery, and invention that leads to transition to the acquisition community.
• Effectively write, edit, and publish newsletters and other publications.
