About The Position

This role seeks an expert to help discover and drive innovative solutions across the breadth of the Asymmetric Operations Sector mission set. The Strategic Advisor will work with AOS leaders and teams of engineers and scientists, contributing to all phases of their work. The role will emphasize cyber operations and its contribution to AOS and Laboratory mission sets. The primary responsibility is to advise the sector on strategic areas in cyber operations, spanning weapon systems, command/control/communications, critical infrastructure, and other areas key for national security. The advisor will partner with line leaders and program managers across the sector, APL, and the sponsor community to understand sponsor challenges. They will work with line organizations to promote intellectual curiosity, creativity, innovation, and technical excellence to deliver high-impact capabilities. The advisor will bring insights from operational experience to refine staff ideas for disruptive impact. They will grow and develop staff through coaching and mentoring, communicating on staff development, growth acceleration, and succession management. The advisor will engage with sponsors, program/project managers, and other groups to solicit ideas and perspectives, and to generate the best solutions, maintaining a deep understanding of sponsor challenges. They will also engage with peer organizations to understand how APL can partner with key organizations across the national security community for unified and collaborative capabilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, math, computer science, physics or another discipline relevant to the duties as described above, or demonstrated experience and leadership in advanced cyber operations for national security
  • At least 10 years of experience leading high performing organizations in government/military, industry or UARC/FFRDCs.
  • A proven track record of successfully mentoring and developing staff and cultivating collaborative relationships within and across organizational boundaries.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to travel occasionally to attend meetings with our government partners.
  • Hold an active TS/SCI level security clearance and are able to obtain a TS/SCI+Poly by start date.
  • Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in creating strategies for national-level military or other USG cyber organizations.
  • Proven track record in developing impactful collaborations among organizations toward mission goals and objectives.
  • Significant experience briefing high-level sponsors at the Flag and SES levels.
