About The Position

Wieland is hiring a Strapping Line Operator. The Strapping Line Operator will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Strapping Line machine in the Finishing Dept. This includes completing all orders on time and in line with the priorities set in the WFS (Wieland Factory Suite) manufacturing computer system. This role is located in Wheeling, IL and will be fully on-site. Hourly Pay Range: $21/hr - $23/hr Work Schedule: 2nd Shift 2 PM - 10 PM Shift Differential: $0.50/hr shift differential Pay Schedule: Biweekly At Wieland, we recognize that attracting the best talent is key to our strategy and success as a company. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience in heavy metals or similar manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Ability to work with calipers, micrometers and other types of testing equipment is preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, and to read and understand written instructions.
  • Ensure proper identification of coils and samples.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment with a positive attitude.

Responsibilities

  • Work independently and as part of a team with safety as the number one priority. Properly follow all company and OSHA safety procedures and report concerns to the Supervisor, Safety, or HR.
  • Perform routine inspections of the work area to ensure proper housekeeping.
  • Check the WFS computer, review orders & priorities. Perform administrative duties as assigned, including completion of work order documentation and data entry into the computerized maintenance system.
  • Crane operator loads the correct coils onto the turnstile using the overhead crane. Place correct skid and proper packaging materials at the offload end of the machine.
  • Enter the correct coil parameters into the control panel and cycle the machine.
  • Monitor the quality of the strapping operation and place spacers or cardboard between coils as specs indicate.
  • Check paperwork, enter correct weights on the WFS system, label material as req'd, and bring the material to the Packaging Line.
  • Ensures the correct material is loaded according to the set priorities.
  • Ensure that the strapping machine is operating correctly.
  • Maintains high strapping quality.
  • Ensure that the coils match the customer's requirements.
  • Ensure that pallets are correctly labeled and ready for the Logistics Department to transport.
  • Maintain 5S and 6S standards and support continuous improvement efforts. Ensure a safe and environmentally responsible workplace in accordance with applicable regulations
  • Reduce scrap by monitoring material quality and equipment performance. Work with other departments to continuously improve quality, machine uptime, efficiency, and productivity
  • Ability to safely operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and pallet jacks (motorized and manual).
