About The Position

The Bander/Unitizer will work with other crew members to the mutual advantage of the shipping department, under methods which will further the safety of the employees, economy of the operation, quality of the output, cleanliness of work, and care of the equipment. This role is responsible for all activities associated with safely operating and caring for a forklift.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Able to read and follow instructions.
  • Able to read a tape measure with speed and accuracy.
  • Able to calculate figures and amounts such as fractions, decimals, percentages, measurements, volume, and rate.
  • Able to apply concepts of high school math.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or graphic form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving one or more concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Working knowledge of equipment design and capabilities that can be translated into efficient operation.
  • Working knowledge of product layouts and production specifications.
  • Working knowledge of product quality specifications.
  • Working knowledge of quality standards.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior work experience in the corrugated industry.
  • Prior work as a forklift operator with inventory and scanner experience.

Responsibilities

  • Operates the automatic strapping machine.
  • Properly straps loads in a neat and secure manner.
  • Assures the correct number of straps are used and properly positioned with the correct tension.
  • Operates entry and exit automatic conveyors to maintain a steady flow of units.
  • Is constantly alert to safety hazards and follows safe working practices.
  • Reports all safety hazards and unsafe acts to the department supervisor.
  • Completes DCP Forklift Certification within 5 days of hire.
  • Operates and cares for forklifts in a safe manner.
  • Completes and documents a forklift inspection form before the start of the shift or when switching to a different forklift.
  • Completes and submits maintenance work orders to supervision for needed repairs daily.
  • Removes finished goods from conveyor lines.
  • Maintains neat, orderly, and safe stacks of stock in storage areas.
  • Maintains accurate location of stock in storage area via paperwork, scanner, and computer.
  • Maximizes the utilization of equipment by operating the machinery at available capacity and speed.
  • Adheres to the daily production schedule.
  • Makes recommendations for optimizing the schedule to meet cost, quality, delivery, and service goals.
  • Assists other forklift operators as necessary and provides backup to the Shipping Lead.
  • Completes necessary reports in an accurate and timely manner, including but not limited to: Production Data, Machine Operational Status, Safety Data, and Quality Data.
  • Complies with all company policies and procedures, including safety and maintaining good housekeeping.
  • Additional duties may be assigned by management.
