About The Position

The Milwaukie Storm Division is responsible for cleaning and maintaining our storm infrastructure. We regularly clean our storm lines and use CCTV technology to inspect the lines using NASSCO coding, identify defects, and make repairs. This job involves using all types of equipment, including combination trucks, backhoes, loaders, dump trucks, and an array of hand tools. The storm crew performs investigative work on cross bores, sinkholes, and for our public works crews, engineering department and consultants. The storm crew works closely with our Natural Resource division with rain garden maintenance and spill response. This is an exciting job for anyone who enjoys working outside, using tools and equipment, and seeing the impact of their work through involvement in a small, close-knit community and workplace. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Two years’ experience equivalent to that of a Utility Tech I
  • Class A commercial driver license and acceptable driving history
  • OSHA Confined Space and Competent Person certification
  • Traffic Control certification
  • Knowledge of maintenance construction and repair methods and procedures used in assigned area.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures applicable to area of assignment.
  • Knowledge of safe and effective operating practices of light equipment used in assigned areas.
  • Basic knowledge of and ability to learn about traffic systems, signs, and signals, techniques of flagging and traffic control.
  • Basic knowledge of and ability to learn to operate power tools used in public works maintenance operations.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual work under confined and uncomfortable conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Operating a street sweeper to clean streets and paths and the downtown core
  • Repairing, maintaining, and inspecting underground storm lines using CCTV technology
  • Cleaning catch basins, dry wells, and sedimentation manholes in compliance with the city’s MS4 permit
  • Performing storm line locates as requested by internal and external customers
  • Operating heavy equipment such as street sweepers, combination trucks, backhoes, loaders, and dump trucks, including those requiring a Class A CDL with tanker and air brake endorsements
