About The Position

Under general supervision, assists Stormwater Management staff with planning, management, maintenance, and protection of the City’s stormwater assets. This seasonal position offers an hourly rate of $15.00. The intern will assist Environmental Specialists with the Clean Rivers Program, including monthly and dry weather sampling events, field verification, and documentation of storm drain outfall attributes. Responsibilities also include organizing and entering data for various environmental management records, such as inspection and sampling records. The intern will assist in reviewing water quality laboratory reports for compliance with TCEQ TMDL regulations and identifying new monitoring locations to meet TCEQ requirements. Other related duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Skill in the use of standard PC-based programs, such as Word, Excel Adobe, and Canva.
  • Skill in the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and GPS equipment.
  • Skill in planning, organizing and coordinating multiple assignments.
  • Skill in reading and interpreting water quality data, reports, maps, and specifications.
  • Skill in communicating by verbal and written means with citizens, staff and other departments.
  • Ability work in indoor, outdoor and construction zone environments.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering plans.
  • Ability to create clear, concise reports regarding stormwater issues.
  • Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication.
  • Ability to perform a variety of physical skills including, but not limited to seeing, carrying, calculating and writing.
  • Ability to operate a motorized vehicle.
  • Skill in using multiparameter probes or water quality field sampling kits.
  • Enrolled as a sophomore or higher in an Environmental Science, Environmental Policy, or Water Quality or Resources program at an accredited institution.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License (min. Class C).

Responsibilities
