About The Position

The Stormwater Specialist performs a wide variety of duties as directed by the Stormwater Supervisor and/or Stormwater Inspector. This includes water quality monitoring, collecting and delivering storm water quality samples to the laboratory, and performing water quality testing using basic field/laboratory equipment. The role also involves assisting with inspections of businesses and industries for stormwater compliance, responding to storm water quality complaints, monitoring and documenting sanitary sewer overflows, and assisting with public awareness initiatives concerning stormwater issues. Additionally, the specialist will operate basic laboratory equipment, compile written reports, prepare letters, and utilize GIS/GPS equipment and software. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in environmental science, chemistry, biology, or other appropriate field.
• Valid Louisiana driver's license.
• Communication skills necessary for contact with industrial/commercial facilities and the general public.
• Physically capable of performing essential duties.

Nice To Haves

• Certification in the appropriate storm water field, awarded by a certifying body recognized by the U.S. EPA and/or Louisiana DEQ for MS4 training compliance within 3 years of employment.

Responsibilities

• Collect storm water quality samples and deliver them to the laboratory.
• Perform water quality testing using basic field/laboratory equipment such as pH meters, rain gauges, and field test kits.
• Assist Stormwater Inspector with inspections of businesses and industries for stormwater compliance.
• Respond to storm water quality complaints and questions.
• Monitor and document sanitary sewer overflows.
• Assist with public awareness work concerning stormwater issues.
• Operate basic laboratory equipment.
• Compile written reports of investigations, findings, corrective action, and recommendations.
• Prepare letters.
• Utilize GIS/GPS equipment and software to accurately locate sites.
