About The Position

To perform maintenance of storm water system as directed by foreman. The Laborer position is responsible for the repairing, replacing, and cleaning utilizing department supplied tools. This position will require work around traffic, construction equipment, streams, creeks, residential homes and public structures. Performs preventative maintenance on storm sewer system. Becomes and remains familiar with laying of pipe for drainage systems. Follows directions per project specifications.

Requirements

  • Ability to work as a team member.

  • Work under pressure with time constraints in a changing environment.
  • Lift and/or move up to 75 pounds frequently.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in written form.
  • Familiar with basic OSHA stands and safety practices.
  • Must have an unexpired Motor Vehicle's License and a good driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in construction preferred.
  • CDL preferred or must obtain within 6-months of beginning employment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance of storm water system as directed by foreman.
  • Repairing, replacing, and cleaning storm water systems utilizing department supplied tools.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on storm sewer system.
  • Become and remain familiar with laying of pipe for drainage systems.
  • Follow directions per project specifications.
  • Use and maintain hand tools associated with construction activity of storm sewer system (i.e. shovels, rakes, sledgehammer, quickie saws, concrete finishing tools, etc.).
  • Remain available for all emergency situations.
  • Check equipment before use.
  • Determine when equipment needs to be used.
  • Operate equipment according to safety guidelines.
  • Perform maintenance when it is necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrate informative and professional assistance when working with vendors, co-workers, and the public.
  • Act independently and originate new procedures and new approaches to problems.
  • Maintain initiative to preserve the flow of work.
  • Work under stress and with commitment to deadlines.
  • Sustain interpersonal relationships which encourage openness, candor and trust, both internally and with the general public.
  • Complete projects and/or reports in accurate and timely manner.
  • Maintain City information in confidential manner.
