About The Position

The Salvation Army Midland Division Thrift Store in Marion, Illinois, is seeking a part-time, temporary Thrift Store Worker. This position involves working 25 hours per week and will be paid $15.00 per hour. The role is expected to advance and support the Mission of The Salvation Army by performing all functions of a thrift store worker. This includes customer interaction, handling donated and purchased items, sorting and pricing merchandise, preparing items for display, operating a cash register, reconciling the cash drawer, and making bank deposits. The majority of the work is physical labor, requiring basic communication and math skills for making change.

Requirements

  • High school/equivalent diploma and one-year related work experience or two years work experience without diploma.
  • Ability to comprehend written job description, cleaning instructions and material safety data sheet.
  • Must be able to operate a cash register, make correct change for items sold and be bondable.
  • Position requires basic communications with customers and other employees.
  • Must be a team player, a self-starter, and perform well with minimum supervision.
  • Basic communications and math skills to make change are required.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with customers and other staff in a manner which promotes positive relationships.
  • Sort donated items.
  • Price donated items.
  • Place donated items on racks/shelves for display.
  • Assist in loading and unloading of the store’s truck, customers’ vehicles, and/or donors’ vehicles.
  • Perform clerk/cashier activities.
  • Perform store custodial duties as directed to include wash windows, dust, clean bathroom, sweep/vacuum/mop floors, carry out trash, etc.
  • Help keep the showroom clean and neat at all times when the store is open.
