About The Position
Under the general supervision of the Store Manager, the Store Perishable Manager manages the perishable departments, including produce, fresh meat, packaged meats, dairy, frozen food, bread, and thaw-and-sell bakery products. The role assists the Store Manager with inventory management, merchandise presentation, customer service, workplace safety, protection of company assets, and compliance with food-handling rules and regulations. The manager supports store financial integrity and compliance with company procedures, maintains appropriate perishable stock levels, and helps train associates in merchandising, food handling, stocking, rotation, produce grading and repackaging, and sanitation. The role records markdowns and inventory levels, addresses customer needs, and assists with other operational areas as directed by the Store Manager.
Requirements
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages.
- Ability to learn and perform cash-register functions to generate reports.
- Ability to review operating statements and identify business trends, expense-control opportunities, shrink, and errors.
- Knowledge of cash-handling procedures, including cashier accountability and deposit control.
- Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety-control policies and practices.
- Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
- Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Understanding of safety policies and practices.
- Ability to read and follow planograms and merchandise-presentation guidance.
- Willingness and ability to comply with company policies and procedures.
- Ability and willingness to obtain required food-handling certifications.

Nice To Haves
- High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
- One year of experience in a retail environment preferred.
- Six months of supervisory experience preferred.
- Previous lead experience and/or grocery-store experience preferred.
- Required local and state food-handling certifications, if applicable.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Store Manager in maintaining the store’s financial integrity through cash accountability, key control, security practices, and cash-control procedures.
- Follow company policies and procedures and assist the Store Manager in ensuring employee compliance.
- Maintain perishable stock levels appropriate to store volume using applicable ads, planners, order guides, sales histories, and planning tools.
- Help train associates on presentation, freshness, and pricing standards for perishable departments.
- Help train associates in safe food handling in compliance with applicable rules and regulations.
- Train associates in proper stocking and rotation of perishable products.
- Record perishable markdowns, analyze their causes, and take corrective action to prevent recurrence.
- Train associates in produce grading and repackaging standards to minimize markdowns.
- Accurately record inventory levels as requested by the Store Support Center.
- Help ensure customer needs and requests are addressed efficiently and in a timely manner, maintaining daily contact with customers to understand merchandise expectations and preferences.
- Help ensure sanitation compliance and train assigned perishable-department associates using the Cleaning Schedule.
- Assist with other operational areas as directed by the Store Manager.
