About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Store Manager, the Store Perishable Manager manages the perishable departments, including produce, fresh and packaged meats, dairy, frozen food, bread, and thaw-and-sell bakery products. The role supports efficient inventory management, appealing and profitable merchandise presentation, quality customer service, a safe working environment, protection of company assets, and compliance with food-handling rules and regulations. The manager assists with store operations and associate training, maintains perishable stock levels, monitors markdowns and inventory, and helps ensure that customers’ needs are addressed. The position also supports sanitation, cash accountability, security, and compliance with company procedures.

Requirements

Ability to read and interpret diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including percentages.
Ability to learn and perform cash-register functions to generate reports.
Ability to review operating statements and identify business trends, expense-control opportunities, shrink, and errors.
Knowledge of cash-handling procedures, including cashier accountability and deposit control.
Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices.
Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
Effective interpersonal and oral and written communication skills.
Understanding of safety policies and practices.
Ability to read and follow plan-o-grams and merchandise-presentation guidance.
Willingness and ability to comply with company policies and procedures.
Ability and willingness to obtain required food-handling certifications.
High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
Attainment of required local and state food-handling certifications, if applicable.

Nice To Haves

One year of experience in a retail environment preferred.
Six months of supervisory experience preferred.
Previous lead experience and/or grocery-store experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist the Store Manager in maintaining the store’s financial integrity through cash accountability, key control, security practices, and cash-control procedures.
Follow company policies and procedures and assist the Store Manager in ensuring employee compliance.
Maintain appropriate perishable stock levels based on store volume using current ads and planners, ordering guides, sales history, vendor guides, and bread-order planning and stales recaps.
Train assigned associates in presentation, freshness, pricing, and safe food-handling standards for perishable areas.
Train assigned associates in proper stocking and rotation of perishable products.
Record perishable markdowns, analyze their causes, and take corrective action to prevent recurrence.
Train assigned associates in produce grading and repackaging standards to minimize markdowns.
Accurately record inventory levels as requested by the Store Support Center.
Help ensure customers’ needs and requests are addressed efficiently and in a timely manner; maintain daily contact with customers to understand merchandise expectations and desires.
Help ensure compliance with sanitation standards and train assigned associates using the Cleaning Schedule.
Assist with other operational areas as directed by the Store Manager.
