About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Store Manager, the Store Perishable Manager manages the store’s perishable departments, including produce, fresh and packaged meat, dairy, frozen foods, bread, and thaw-and-sell bakery products. The role assists the Store Manager with inventory management, merchandise presentation, customer service, workplace safety, protection of company assets, and compliance with food-handling requirements. The position also supports associate training, perishable ordering and stock management, markdown analysis, sanitation, and other store operations as directed by the Store Manager. Relocation assistance is not available.

Requirements

Ability to read and interpret diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals.
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including percentages.
Ability to learn and perform cash register functions to generate reports.
Ability to review operating statements and identify business trends, expense-control opportunities, shrink, and errors.
Knowledge of cash handling, cashier accountability, deposit control, facility and safety controls, inventory management, and merchandising practices.
Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
Effective interpersonal and oral and written communication skills.
Understanding of safety policies and practices.
Ability to read and follow planograms and merchandise-presentation guidance.
Ability and willingness to comply with company policies and procedures.
Ability and willingness to obtain required food-handling certifications.
High school diploma or equivalent is strongly preferred.
Attainment of required local and state food-handling certifications, if applicable.

Nice To Haves

One year of experience in a retail environment.
Six months of supervisory experience.
Previous lead experience and/or grocery store experience.

Responsibilities

Assist the Store Manager with financial integrity, cash accountability, key control, security practices, and cash-control procedures.
Follow company policies and procedures and assist the Store Manager in ensuring employee compliance.
Maintain appropriate perishable stock levels based on store volume using company ordering tools and guides.
Assist in training associates on presentation, freshness, pricing, and safe food-handling standards.
Train associates in proper stocking and rotation of perishable products.
Record perishable markdowns, analyze their causes, and take corrective action to prevent recurrence.
Train produce associates in grading and repackaging standards to minimize markdowns.
Accurately record inventory levels as requested by the Store Support Center.
Help ensure customer needs and requests are addressed efficiently and in a timely manner; maintain daily customer contact to understand merchandise expectations and preferences.
Assist with sanitation compliance and train associates in perishable departments using the Cleaning Schedule.
Assist with other operational areas as directed by the Store Manager.
