About The Position

The Store Manager is responsible for the successful operation and profitability of the store, which includes training, directing, and monitoring all department staff. This role requires a high level of professionalism, integrity, and leadership to motivate staff towards high performance while ensuring exemplary customer service and maintaining store standards. The manager is expected to be actively involved on the sales floor, assisting customers and directing staff for at least 75% of their time.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • 1-2 years management experience in grocery and/or related retail experience.
  • Natural foods industry experience is a plus.
  • Able to manage changing priorities.
  • Ability to pass applicable food safety training courses and/or testing to obtain certifications as required by state and/or county law.
  • Must be able to obtain forklift certification.
  • Maintain compliance by keeping food safety certifications up to date through continuing education and registered with the appropriate agency if applicable.
  • Possesses a sense of urgency in the completion of tasks and stay focused with the task at hand.
  • Possesses excellent customer service skills.
  • Highly organized with great attention to detail.
  • Able to take direction and follow through.
  • Must be cashier trained.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel and Outlook.

Responsibilities

  • Train, direct, and monitor all department staff.
  • Provide World Class customer service and train staff on exemplary customer service.
  • Act professionally at all times and provide appropriate leadership.

  • Handle customer complaints appropriately and per company policy.
  • Ensure the store is inviting and shoppable with desired products in-stock.
  • Handle special orders appropriately and per company policy.
  • Answer the phone per company standards.
  • Be on the sales floor assisting customers, directing staff, and attending to all departments at least 75% of the time.
  • Ensure staff is in compliance with applicable state and/or county food safety certifications and registration.
  • Ensure the store is meeting and/or exceeding expectations in store and department sales, Sales per Labor Hour Ratio, Average Ticket, Customer Count, Cost of Goods Sold for Produce, and EBITDA.
  • Order product from correct vendors to receive correct discounts and maintain margins.
  • Ensure perishables are rotated and stocked per company standards.
  • Manage mark-downs per company standards.
  • Assist customers in all areas of the store, viewing the store as a whole.
  • Ensure store personnel are trained, assigned tasks, and held accountable.
  • Ensure master and daily schedules are accurate, complete, meet store needs, and are posted in a timely manner.
  • Assign tasks daily using company task sheets and monitor appropriately.
  • Partner with department managers to share staff to accomplish tasks as needed.
  • Train and monitor staff to ensure they view the store as a whole and are prepared to assist customers.
  • Partner with department managers to cross-train staff.
  • Partner with staff to ensure adequate product knowledge.
  • Complete and conduct all store staff performance evaluations with input from department managers.
  • Grant wage increases when appropriate.
  • Interview and hire for store needs with input from department managers.
  • Address performance and/or disciplinary issues appropriately and in a timely manner with HR assistance.
  • Maintain clear and direct communication with store staff, including conducting monthly staff meetings and posting company information.
  • Ensure safety guidelines are followed at all times.
  • Manage business disruptions such as loiterers, solicitation, emergency weather situations, and bathroom misuse.
  • Ensure all Ultimate edits are made in a timely manner.
  • Proactively hire, train, and develop store staff, department managers, and Assistant Store Managers for future management positions.
  • Effectively train new store management in proper store and department operations.
  • Encourage staff to increase nutritional and product knowledge and train on new products and nutrition.
  • Answer customer questions per company standards.
  • Monitor all departments and hold department managers accountable for store operational duties.
  • Complete operational responsibilities including daily schedules, checklists, and opening/closing duties.
  • Ensure store paperwork and reports are completed in a timely manner, including the Monthly Manager’s Report.
  • Efficiently and accurately complete the DSR and Manager's Cash.
  • Communicate all issues with the home office and ensure resolution.
  • Maintain store appearance and cleanliness.
  • Respond quickly to Dept. Manager calls when on duty and assist with coverage for lunches and breaks.
  • Support decisions made by home office and follow directions.
  • Read and follow communications from home office.
  • Remain flexible to changing work demands to accomplish goals.
  • Be "hands on" and do whatever it takes to get the job done and make the company thrive.
