About The Position

The Store Manager is responsible for managing all employees and effectively planning and implementing store processes, including ordering, receiving, stocking, presentation, selling, staffing, and support. The role ensures the store is properly staffed, operates effectively, meets inventory and merchandising standards, maintains financial integrity, and provides superior customer service. The manager opens the store at least twice per week and closes it at least twice per week, and regularly drives their own vehicle to meetings, other Dollar General stores, and to make deposits. The position involves frequent walking or standing, bending, stooping, and kneeling, along with handling merchandise and equipment. It also includes lifting up to 40 pounds frequently and up to 55 pounds occasionally, occasional climbing on a step ladder to six feet, and occasional exposure to outdoor weather, hazardous cleaning solutions, and freezer cold. The work takes place in a fast-paced environment with moderate noise.

Requirements

Ability to read and interpret documents such as diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to perform mathematical calculations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages.
Knowledge of cash-handling procedures, including cashier accountability and deposit control.
Ability to perform cash register functions to generate reports.
Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Effective interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling, and termination practices, including legal compliance and internal processes.
Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices, including deposits and store keys.
Good organizational skills and attention to detail.

Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

Recruit, select, and retain qualified employees in compliance with labor laws and Company policies, and ensure adequate staffing.
Train employees, conduct performance evaluations, identify performance gaps, and provide solutions or counseling, up to and including termination.
Recommend employee pay rates and advancement.
Regularly communicate performance, conduct, and safety expectations; coordinate meetings and events that promote safety, security, and policy compliance.
Ensure the store is properly staffed and opened and closed effectively each day; open at least twice and close at least twice per week.
Review operating statements to identify business trends, expense-control opportunities, potential shrink, and errors.
Order merchandise to meet or exceed in-stock targets; review ordering plans, seasonal direction, and inventory management weekly; follow up on Basic Stock Replenishment and cycle counts.
Facilitate efficient merchandise staging, stocking, and storage according to Company processes.
Ensure merchandise presentation follows established practices, including proper use of fixtures, pricing, and signage.
Maintain accurate inventory by controlling damages, markdowns, scanning, paperwork, and facility controls.
Maintain store financial integrity through cashier accountability, key control, Company security practices, and cash-control procedures.
Provide leadership in delivering superior customer service.
Maintain a clean, organized store and a safe, secure working and shopping environment.
Ensure the store has the tools needed to perform required tasks.
Follow Company policies and procedures and ensure employee compliance.
Complete paperwork and documentation according to guidelines and deadlines.
Drive a personal vehicle to meetings, other Dollar General stores, and to make deposits.
