Responsible for the management of all employees in the effective planning and implementation of all store processes, including ordering, receiving, stocking, presentation, selling, staffing and support. The Store Manager will recruit, select and retain qualified employees according to federal and state labor laws and company policies, ensuring the store is properly staffed. They will provide proper training for employees, conduct performance evaluations, and identify gaps for appropriate solutions and/or counseling, up to and including termination. Recommendations regarding employee pay rate and advancement will be made. Performance, conduct, and safety expectations will be communicated regularly, and meetings and events to encourage safety, security, and policies will be coordinated. The Store Manager will ensure that the store is adequately equipped with tools necessary to perform required tasks and will complete all paperwork and documentation according to guidelines and deadlines. This role requires the ability to read and interpret documents, perform mathematical calculations, and possess knowledge of cash handling procedures, inventory management, and merchandising practices. Effective oral and written communication skills, as well as effective interpersonal skills, are essential. Knowledge of recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling, and termination practices, including legal compliance and internal processes, is required. Good organization skills with attention to detail and the ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of situations where limited standardization exists are also necessary. Certain store locations may give preference to bilingual Spanish speakers. A high school diploma or equivalent is strongly preferred, and one year of management experience in a retail environment is preferred. The Store Manager will align motives, values, and beliefs with Dollar General values, support ownership by tapping into the potential of others, and act as a liaison between the corporate office and store employees. Fostering cooperation and collaboration, interacting with staff tactfully yet directly, and maintaining an open forum of exchange are key. Demonstrating responsiveness and sensitivity to customer needs and applying basic principles of retail are expected. Continuous attention to the development of staff, recruiting, hiring, and training qualified applicants, and ensuring store compliance to federal labor laws and company policies and procedures are also core functions.
