About The Position

La Cabra is seeking an experienced and thoughtful Store Manager to lead our new flagship bakery and café in Chelsea, New York City. This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for the daily operation and performance of the store. The Store Manager sets the standard for hospitality, professionalism, organization, and care, creating an environment in which guests feel welcome and employees can do their best work. Because this location brings together a bakery and café, the Store Manager will work closely with the Bakery Manager, Head Baker, Coffee Manager, Lead Baristas, and wider management team to ensure a cohesive and consistently high-quality guest experience.

Requirements

  • Previous experience managing a high-volume café, bakery, restaurant, or comparable hospitality operation.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • A warm, composed, and solutions-oriented approach to hospitality.
  • Experience with scheduling, payroll administration, cash handling, ordering, inventory, and team development.
  • Sound judgment and the ability to address employee and guest concerns professionally.
  • A valid NYC Food Protection Certificate, or the ability to obtain one before the required start date.
  • Availability to work a flexible full-time schedule averaging at least 40 hours per week, including early mornings, weekends, and holidays as business needs require.
  • Ability to remain on your feet for extended periods and lift or move items weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Availability for an initial one-year contract, with the opportunity to renew.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily store operations across the café, guest areas, and shared bakery environment.
  • Maintain consistently high standards of hospitality, service, cleanliness, organization, and team performance.
  • Ensure the store meets NYC Department of Health requirements and is prepared for inspection at all times.
  • Make sure employees understand and follow all food-safety, workplace-safety, and sanitation procedures.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for guest questions, concerns, and complaints, resolving issues with care and sound judgment.
  • Work regular floor shifts and remain actively involved in daily service.
  • Create and maintain the weekly staff schedule, making adjustments as operational needs change.
  • Review timecards and complete necessary corrections accurately and on time.
  • Manage cash drawers, deposits, the store safe, and cash-tip procedures.
  • Maintain clear and timely communication with the General Manager and wider management team.
  • Manage weekly ordering of coffee, milk, tea, paper goods, retail merchandise, cleaning products, and other store supplies.
  • Monitor inventory levels, product usage, waste, and storage organization.
  • Partner with the Lead Barista and Coffee Manager when introducing and dialing in new coffees.
  • Directly manage Lead Baristas and Shift Leads, establishing clear priorities and expectations.
  • Lead onboarding and training for new Baristas and Shift Leads in partnership with the Lead Barista.
  • Coach employees through interpersonal and operational concerns with consistency, discretion, and respect.
  • Hold a weekly meeting with Lead Baristas and Shift Leads.
  • Partner with the Lead Barista and Coffee Manager to maintain strong coffee, service, and hospitality standards.
  • Support employee development through regular feedback, training, and clear performance expectations.
  • Promote a collaborative relationship between the café and bakery teams.
  • Lead interviews and hiring in partnership with the Area Manager and wider management team.
  • Identify opportunities to improve service, workflow, communication, and operational systems.
  • Evaluate and implement changes that support the long-term growth of the store and company.
