About The Position

Forge & Build is hiring a Store Manager at our facility in Iowa City, IA. The Store Manager is responsible for the overall day-to-day operations, including driving store sales and profitability, managing inventory and expenses, and ensuring optimal stocking and merchandising. This role requires leading the store staff, delivering superior customer service, coordinating receiving and dispatch, and upholding all company safety standards.

Requirements

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of P&L metrics and the ability to execute on KPIs for driving profit.
  • Strong ability to build and maintain internal and external business relationships.
  • Proficiency with electronic technology and Google applications, with the ability to learn and implement new technology advancements.
  • Ability to calculate and understand board foot and market pricing within the industry.
  • Operational expertise in inventory control and the ability to train associates on proper techniques and guidelines.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of store and yard layout, and the ability to learn and suggest improvements for store products and operations.
  • Ability to work 45+ hours per week.
  • Previous retail management experience is required (2+ years preferred), preferably in a lumber or home center environment.
  • Proven experience leading and supervising team members.
  • Experience managing store inventory.
  • Ability to perform prolonged periods of computer work, standing, walking, and sitting.
  • Ability to move and change store layouts, including the capacity to lift up to 50 lbs at a time.
  • Tolerate exposure to external temperatures when assisting customers outdoors.
  • Employment is contingent on passing a background check.
  • Additionally, some roles require passing a drug test, depending on the job responsibilities.

  • Preferred knowledge of building processes and estimating.
  • Preferred experience buying and selling lumber and building materials.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and development for all store associates and direct reports.
  • Deliver on sales and profitability goals, and maintain P&L accountability by effectively managing expense, receivables, sales, and payroll budgets.
  • Ensure adherence to all company practices, operational policies, procedures, and regulated safety compliance, fostering a positive employee safety environment.
  • Oversee all aspects of store operations, including inventory management, merchandising, and maintaining store and yard standards.
  • Proactively assist customers, manage complaints, and cultivate a positive store culture that provides a superior customer experience and positive brand representation.
  • Implement and maintain processes to mitigate inventory shrink.
  • Identify, communicate, and address all necessary store maintenance issues.
  • Implement, execute, and maintain all company operational changes throughout the store.
