About The Position

The Store Manager Candidate supports the Store Manager in implementing store processes, including employee supervision, staffing, inventory management, stocking and receiving, paperwork, and other store needs. The position is designed to provide interactive development for an external candidate for the Store Manager role and is intended to be held for a limited period. The candidate assists with recruiting and staffing, merchandising, inventory management, ordering, and customer service leadership. They help maintain store standards, follow company policies, participate in opening and closing activities, safeguard company funds, and support cash control and store security. The candidate may operate the store in the Store Manager’s absence and review operating statements to identify business trends, cost-control opportunities, potential shrink, and errors. They complete required paperwork and documentation within established guidelines and deadlines. The role involves frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, and handling merchandise and equipment. It requires regular driving of the candidate’s own vehicle for meetings, visits to other stores, and bank deposits. The work takes place in a fast-paced environment with moderate noise and may involve exposure to outdoor weather, cleaning solutions, slippery floors, and extreme cold in freezers.

Requirements

Ability to read and interpret diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including percentages.
Knowledge of cash handling, cashier accountability, and deposit controls.
Ability to learn and perform cash register functions, including generating reports.
Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices.
Knowledge of recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling, and termination practices, including legal compliance and internal processes.
Proficient interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to solve problems and handle situations with limited standardization.
Two or more years of experience in a leadership or managerial position.
Valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent is strongly preferred.
Two or more years of experience in a retail grocery store is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist with recruiting and staffing activities.
Assist with merchandising, including staging, stocking, storing, pricing, signing, and presenting merchandise according to established practices and Store Manager direction.
Assist with inventory management, including damages, markdowns, register scanning, paperwork, facility controls, and conducting inventories.
Follow ordering practices to meet or exceed in-stock targets.
Provide customer service leadership.
Model compliance with company procedures and policies.
Participate in store opening and closing activities.
Ensure company funds are deposited safely in the designated bank.
Assist in maintaining cashier accountability, key control, security practices, and cash control procedures.
Help maintain clean, well-stocked stores and a safe environment for customers and employees.
Operate the store in the Store Manager’s absence.
Review operating statements for business trends, expense-control opportunities, potential shrink, and errors.
Complete paperwork and documentation according to guidelines and deadlines.
