About The Position

The Store Manager Candidate supports the Store Manager in implementing store processes, including employee supervision, staffing, inventory management, stocking and receiving, paperwork, and other store needs. The position provides interactive development for an external candidate for the Store Manager role and is intended to be held for a limited period. The role assists with recruiting and staffing, merchandising, inventory management, ordering, customer service, store opening and closing, cash and security controls, and maintaining a clean and safe store. The candidate operates the store in the Store Manager’s absence, reviews operating statements to identify trends and opportunities, and completes required paperwork and documentation. The position involves frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, and handling merchandise and equipment. It requires lifting up to 40 pounds frequently and up to 55 pounds occasionally, occasional step-ladder climbing, and regular use of a personal vehicle for meetings, store visits, and deposits. The work is fast-paced with moderate noise and may include exposure to outside weather, cleaning solutions, slippery floors, and extreme cold in freezers.

Requirements

Ability to read and interpret documents such as diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to perform mathematical calculations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages.
Knowledge of cash-handling procedures, including cashier accountability and deposit controls.
Ability to learn and perform cash-register functions, including functions needed to generate reports.
Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices.
Knowledge of recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling, and termination practices, including legal compliance and internal processes.
Proficient interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to solve problems and handle varied situations where limited standardization exists.
Two or more years of experience in a leadership or managerial position.
Valid driver’s license.
Ability to meet the stated physical demands, including frequent lifting of up to 40 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 55 pounds.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent is strongly preferred.
Two or more years of experience in a retail grocery store is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist with recruiting and staffing activities.
Assist with merchandising, including staging, stocking, storing, and presenting merchandise according to established practices and Store Manager direction; properly use fixtures, signage, and pricing.
Assist with inventory management, including damages, markdowns, register scanning, paperwork, facility controls, and conducting inventories.
Follow ordering practices to meet or exceed in-stock targets.
Provide leadership in delivering superior customer service.
Model compliance with Company procedures and policies in the employee handbook, SOP manual, and Company communications.
Participate in store opening and closing activities.
Ensure Company funds are safely deposited at the designated bank.
Assist in maintaining the store’s financial integrity through cashier accountability, key control, security practices, and cash control procedures.
Assist with maintaining clean, well-stocked stores and a safe environment for customers and employees.
Operate the store in the Store Manager’s absence.
Review operating statements for business trends, expense-control opportunities, potential shrink, and errors.
Complete paperwork and documentation according to guidelines and deadlines.
