About The Position

The Store Manager Candidate supports the Store Manager in implementing store processes, including employee supervision, staffing, inventory management, stocking and receiving, paperwork, and other store needs. The position is intended to develop an external candidate for the Store Manager role and is held for a limited period. The role includes supporting recruiting and staffing, merchandising, inventory management, ordering, customer service, store opening and closing, cash controls, store cleanliness and safety, and store operations when the Store Manager is absent. The candidate reviews operating statements for business trends and opportunities, and completes required paperwork and documentation according to guidelines and deadlines. The work takes place in a fast-paced environment with moderate noise. It involves frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, and handling merchandise and equipment; occasional ladder climbing and driving for bank deposits, meetings, or visits to other stores; and some travel with limited overnight stays.

Requirements

Ability to read and interpret diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including percentages.
Knowledge of cash handling procedures, cashier accountability, and deposit controls.
Ability to learn and perform IBM cash register functions, including generating reports.
Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices, including deposits, store keys, SAFE, and STARS programs.
Knowledge of recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling, and termination practices, including legal compliance and internal processes.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Effective interpersonal skills.
Effective organization skills and attention to detail.
Ability to solve problems and handle situations where limited standardization exists.
High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
Occasional driving requires providing own transportation.
Frequent and proper lifting of up to 40 pounds; occasional lifting of up to 55 pounds.

Nice To Haves

One year of experience in a retail environment is preferred for external candidates.
Bilingual Spanish speakers may be preferred at certain store locations.

Responsibilities

Assist with recruiting and staffing activities.
Assist with merchandising, including staging, stocking, storing, signing, and pricing merchandise in accordance with established practices and Store Manager direction.
Assist with inventory management, including damages, markdowns, register scanning, paperwork, facility controls, and preparing and conducting inventories.
Follow ordering practices to meet or exceed in-stock targets.
Provide customer service leadership and demonstrate responsiveness to customer needs.
Model compliance with company procedures and policies.
Participate in store opening and closing activities.
Ensure company funds are deposited safely in the designated bank.
Support the store’s financial integrity through cashier accountability, key control, security practices, and cash control procedures.
Help maintain a clean, well-stocked, and safe store for customers and employees.
Operate the store in the Store Manager’s absence.
Review operating statements to identify business trends, expense-control opportunities, potential shrink, and errors.
Complete paperwork and documentation according to guidelines and deadlines.
Support employee development and recruit, hire, and train qualified applicants to meet store needs.
Ensure store compliance with federal labor laws and company policies and procedures.
Act as a liaison between the Store Support Center and store employees, and foster cooperation and collaboration.
