About The Position

The Store Manager Candidate supports the Store Manager in implementing store processes, including employee supervision, staffing, inventory management, stocking and receiving, paperwork, and other store needs. The position is intended to provide interactive development for an external candidate for the Store Manager role and is held for a limited period. The candidate may operate the store in the Store Manager’s absence and helps maintain store operations, customer service, financial integrity, safety, and compliance with company policies. The role requires some travel, with limited overnight stays.

Requirements

Ability to read and interpret diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including percentages.
Knowledge of cash handling, cashier accountability, and deposit controls.
Ability to learn and perform IBM cash register functions, including report generation.
Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices, including deposits, store keys, SAFE, and STARS programs.
Knowledge of recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling, and termination practices, including legal compliance and internal processes.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Effective interpersonal skills.
Strong organization skills and attention to detail.
Ability to solve problems and handle situations with limited standardization.
Frequent walking and standing; frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, and handling merchandise and equipment.
Ability to lift up to 40 pounds frequently and up to 55 pounds occasionally.
Ability to climb a ladder occasionally.
Occasional driving, including providing own transportation for bank deposits, management meetings, and visits to other stores.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with moderate noise and occasional exposure to outside weather conditions.
Some travel is required, with limited overnight stays.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
One year of retail experience preferred for external candidates.
Bilingual Spanish speakers may be preferred at certain store locations.

Responsibilities

Assist with recruiting and staffing activities.
Assist with merchandising, including staging, stocking, storing, and presenting merchandise according to established practices and Store Manager direction; properly use merchandise fixtures, signing, and pricing.
Assist with inventory management, including damages, markdowns, register scanning, paperwork, facility controls, and conducting inventories.
Follow ordering practices to meet or exceed in-stock targets.
Provide customer service leadership and serve as a role model by following company procedures and policies.
Participate in store opening and closing activities.
Ensure company funds are safely deposited at the designated bank.
Help maintain the store’s financial integrity through cashier accountability, key control, security practices, and cash control procedures.
Help maintain clean, well-stocked stores and a safe environment for customers and employees.
Operate the store in the Store Manager’s absence.
Review operating statements to identify business trends, expense control opportunities, potential shrink, and errors.
Complete paperwork and documentation according to guidelines and deadlines.
Support cooperation and collaboration, communicate tactfully with employees, and act as a liaison between the Store Support Center and store employees.
Support staff development and recruit, hire, and train qualified applicants to meet store needs.
Help ensure compliance with federal labor laws and company policies and procedures.
Travel as needed, including occasional driving to make bank deposits, attend management meetings, and visit other Dollar General stores.
