About The Position

The Store Manager Candidate supports the Store Manager in implementing store processes, including employee supervision, staffing, inventory management, stocking and receiving, paperwork, and other store needs. The position provides interactive development for an external candidate for the Store Manager role and is intended to be held for a limited period. The role includes supporting recruiting and staffing, merchandising, inventory activities, ordering, customer service, store opening and closing, cash and security controls, store cleanliness and safety, and operating the store in the Store Manager’s absence. The candidate also reviews operating statements and completes required paperwork and documentation according to guidelines and deadlines. The work is performed in a fast-paced environment with a moderate noise level. It involves frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, and handling merchandise and equipment; regular driving of the employee’s own vehicle; and occasional climbing, exposure to outdoor weather, cleaning solutions, slippery floors, and extreme cold in freezers.

Requirements

Two or more years of experience in a leadership or managerial position.
Ability to read and interpret diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to perform mathematical calculations, including percentages.
Knowledge of cash handling procedures, cashier accountability, and deposit controls.
Ability to learn and perform cash register functions, including functions necessary to generate reports.
Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices.
Knowledge of recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling, and termination practices, including legal compliance and internal processes.
Proficient interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
Organizational skills with attention to detail.
Ability to solve problems and handle situations where limited standardization exists.
Valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent is strongly preferred.
Two or more years of experience in a retail grocery store is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist with recruiting and staffing activities.
Assist with merchandising by staging, stocking, and storing merchandise; ensure merchandise is presented according to established practices and the Store Manager’s direction; and properly use fixtures, signage, and pricing.
Assist with inventory management, including damages, markdowns, register scanning, paperwork, and facility controls; prepare and conduct inventories.
Follow ordering practices to meet or exceed in-stock targets.
Provide leadership in delivering superior customer service.
Model compliance with Company procedures and policies, including the employee handbook, SOP manual, and Company communications.
Participate in store opening and closing activities.
Ensure Company funds are safely deposited in the designated bank.
Assist in maintaining the store’s financial integrity through cashier accountability, key control, security practices, and cash control procedures.
Assist in maintaining clean, well-stocked stores and a safe environment for customers and employees.
Operate the store in the Store Manager’s absence.
Review operating statements to identify business trends, expense-control opportunities, potential shrink, and errors.
Complete paperwork and documentation according to guidelines and deadlines.
Drive a personal vehicle to attend meetings, visit other Dollar General stores, and make deposits.
