About The Position

The Store Manager Candidate supports the Store Manager in implementing store processes, including employee supervision, staffing, inventory management, stocking and receiving, paperwork, and other store needs. The role is intended to develop an external candidate for the Store Manager position and is held for a limited period. The candidate may operate the store in the Store Manager’s absence and helps ensure effective customer service, store operations, financial integrity, safety, and compliance with company policies and procedures. The position involves frequent physical activity and some travel, including occasional overnight stays.

Requirements

Ability to read and interpret diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including percentages.
Knowledge of cash handling, cashier accountability, and deposit controls.
Ability to learn and perform IBM cash register functions, including report generation.
Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices, including deposits, store keys, SAFE, and STARS programs.
Knowledge of recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling, and termination practices, including legal compliance and internal processes.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Effective interpersonal and organizational skills, with attention to detail.
Ability to solve problems and handle situations with limited standardization.
Ability to perform frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, and merchandise handling.
Ability to frequently lift up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift up to 55 pounds.
Ability to occasionally climb a ladder.
Ability to occasionally drive or provide own transportation for bank deposits, meetings, and travel to other stores.
Some travel is required, with limited overnight stays.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
One year of experience in a retail environment preferred for external candidates.
Bilingual Spanish speakers may be preferred at certain store locations.

Responsibilities

Assist with recruiting and staffing activities, including recruiting, hiring, and training qualified applicants.
Assist with merchandising, staging, stocking, and storing merchandise, and ensure merchandise is presented and priced according to established practices and direction.
Assist with inventory management, including damages, markdowns, register scanning, paperwork, facility controls, and conducting inventories.
Follow ordering practices to meet or exceed in-stock targets.
Provide customer service leadership and respond to customer needs.
Model compliance with company procedures and policies.
Participate in store opening and closing activities.
Ensure company funds are deposited safely at the designated bank.
Support store financial integrity through cashier accountability, key control, security practices, and cash control procedures.
Help maintain clean, well-stocked stores and a safe environment for customers and employees.
Operate the store in the Store Manager’s absence.
Review operating statements for business trends, expense-control opportunities, potential shrink, and errors.
Complete paperwork and documentation according to guidelines and deadlines.
Support employee development and foster cooperation and collaboration.
Act as a liaison between the Store Support Center and store employees.
Ensure store compliance with federal labor laws and company policies and procedures.
Make bank deposits, attend management meetings, and travel to other Dollar General stores as needed.
