About The Position

The Store Director (Store Manager) role involves leading a team to help families discover the joy of everyday life. This position focuses on developing leaders who care about their teams, guests, and each other. The Store Director leads a team of experts passionate about ensuring guests find what they need and more. This role requires accountability for running a profitable growth business and offers meaningful experiences for leaders to build and develop skills for a career. The Store Director will gain experience in managing large teams, recruiting, talent management, guest service, retail business financials, creating store-specific strategies, and understanding total store business fundamentals. They will also set quarterly business priorities, manage teams to meet sales goals, build partnerships with key internal partners, and make business decisions based on market competition, guest insights, and feedback.

  • Scan, handle and move merchandise efficiently and safely, including frequently lifting or moving merchandise up to 44 pounds without additional assistance from others
  • Capable of working in and exposure to varying temperatures, humidity, and other elements while performing certain job duties including but not limited to Drive-Up, carryout, etc.
  • Ability to remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift (shift length may vary)

  • Recruits, hires and retains a passionate team for area specific knowledge and expertise.
  • Oversees the scheduling process to ensure schedules meet the needs of your business, while providing a consistent guest experience and aligning with team member availability and desired hours.
  • Owns and implements leadership schedules that align to guest and business needs (including weekends, mornings, evenings, overnight and appropriate seasonal adjustments).
  • Demonstrates and promotes inclusivity by valuing diverse voices and approaches, being authentic and respectful, and creating equitable experiences.
  • Invests in and follows up on personal and team training to enhance skills and capabilities, following up to consistently achieve timely completion of required training.
  • Drives a guest-obsessed culture balancing the in-store and digital guest to deliver on store sales goals and operational goals while ensuring your team can inform, educate and promote the suite of benefits, features and offerings that reward our guest and/or enhance their shopping experience (including the Target App, Target Circle Card, Target Circle, Drive Up, Order Pick Up and Circle 360 same day delivery).
  • Reviews store guest, financial, and team metrics to identify gaps and understand behaviors and takes action to improve.
  • Builds and executes plans to run an efficient operation to fund future growth.
  • Leads and creates a culture of executing all best practices; understands where operational shortage can occur throughout the building, builds routines and action plans to resolve opportunities, and establishes clear goals and expectations to hold team accountable.
  • Leverages reports (financial, operational, safety, food safety, team and guest) to understand the business and make decisions.
  • Leads a culture of financial accountability through following sales trends, leadership headcount guidelines, payroll management and hourly overtime guidance and teaching each team how to understand their role in driving sales growth and total store profitability.
  • Assesses the competition; leverages guest insights and feedback to drive the business and be the destination of choice for our guests.
  • Builds relationships that are important to the store’s community to address the most pressing local needs.
  • Leverages field partners’ expertise and guidance to help solve problems, collaborate on store opportunities and wins to lead your team to continuous operational improvement and driving business objectives.
  • Sets clear priorities for the team through balancing competing priorities and demands.
  • Owns the safety culture and performance for the store through modeling and recognizing safe behaviors, identifying and correcting hazards, assisting with incident response, validating investigations effectively drive sustainable solutions, and owning total store accountability to team and guest safety.
  • Validates an instore security culture by focusing on deterrence, response and resolution in order to improve physical security processes.
  • Validates that merchandise protection strategies across the total store are being executed according to best practices.
  • As a key carrier, follows all safe and secure training and processes.
  • Addresses all store emergency and compliance needs.
  • Regularly assumes store-level leadership on duty (LOD) responsibilities to enable the guest experience for the store during assigned shifts.
  • Always demonstrates a culture of ethical conduct, safety (including food safety) and compliance; Leads and holds the team accountable to work in the same way.
