About The Position

A Goodwill Associate performs various retail and production duties in a mission-based, customer-first environment, focusing on providing excellent customer service, and maintaining an environment that supports a positive experience for customers, program participants, and associates.

Requirements

  • Speak and understand the English language sufficient to read materials, communicate with customers and coworkers.
  • Able to maintain the physical requirements of the working environment.
  • Perform simple mathematical calculations.
  • Experience that would lend itself to good customer service is highly desirable.
  • Must regularly lift, carry, and/or move up to 20 pounds and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to push/pull and carry up to 30 pounds.
  • Occasional need to push heavy, wheeled carts, pallet jacks, hand trucks and other material handling equipment with loads weighing up to 250 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

  • Previous experience in a retail or comparable environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Interacts effectively with customers by providing excellent customer service, resolving problems within the scope of the role to the customer’s satisfaction in a timely, effective, and respectful manner.
  • Assists GoodWorks staff with implementation of work plans and guidelines as established for client programs, as assigned by store manager.
  • Works a variety of shifts including weekends as assigned
  • Works intermittently without direct supervision.
  • Able to prioritize tasks and responsibilities to maintain an acceptable level of productivity.
  • Performs inventories, tallies, or other forms of tracking as required for the retail and operation environments.
  • Conducts general housekeeping functions, such as vacuuming, sweeping outside areas, dusting, and restroom maintenance.
  • Assist customers through the donation process.
  • Performs daily checks and maintenance on equipment.
  • Organizes totes and storage areas.
  • Accurately sorts donations into assigned containers.
  • Supports Loading, unloading, and transferring materials (household goods, furniture, appliances, etc.).
  • Sorts incoming materials and maintains strict quality control standards showing good judgment on all donations as they come into the system (i.e., salvage or store quality).
  • Opens/closes and prepares work area for the workday.
  • Receives, prepares, sorts, prices, and rotates stock for retail floor and conducts quality control.
  • Establishing values for donated goods based on provided price guides, and training.
  • Operates department equipment and machinery, prepares goods for sale, procession, or storage.
  • Safely and correctly operates other departmental machinery as assigned.
  • Supports maintaining organization within retail store.
  • Assists customers with selection and purchases, ensuring the highest level of customer first service.
  • Operates electronic cash register, handles cash, charge, and check/voucher transactions.
  • Prepares cash drawers and related paperwork as assigned.
  • Safeguards company property, including donated goods.
  • Reports any incident of theft, fraud, waste, or unauthorized possession of company property.
  • Performs other duties as assigned that would lead to successful operation of department, team and/or mission.
  • Performs duties in a manner that promotes team concept and reflects Goodwill’s mission and ethics, in accordance with all Goodwill policies, procedures, codes of conduct, CARF standards, and accepted business practices.
  • Consistently demonstrates and incorporates principles of safety, loss prevention and risk management for self and others into daily activities and ensures participation in Goodwill safety programs.
  • Attends required safety training and will participate in safety drills and exercises.
  • Requires punctual and regular attendance. Time away from work is approved and taken in accordance with established policies.
  • Works cooperatively with all organization employees, participants, customers, and other persons contacted during performing duties.
  • Shows respect and sensitivity for those with barriers to employment.
  • Consistently provides excellent customer service to internal business partners and external customers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned that would lead to successful operation of department, team and/or mission.
