About The Position

The Salvation Army is seeking a Store Assistant Manager for their Waipahu Thrift Store. This full-time position plays a crucial role in the daily operations of the store, aiming to provide customers with excellent selection and service while supporting the organization's mission of preaching the Gospel and meeting human needs. The Assistant Manager will be accountable for meeting sales and income budget expectations, managing expenses, and fostering a positive, mentoring environment for program participants. Key responsibilities include assisting with store operations, personnel management, customer service, and ensuring the security and safety of the store and its assets.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years previous Retail Management/Supervisory experience (thrift preferred).
  • Basic understanding of office applications, including MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Must hold a valid Driver's license, able to pass MVR report, able to show proof of insurance and have access to a motor vehicle.
  • Must pass background check, which will include Criminal History and Sex Offender Registry.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with management, store employees, customers and donors.

Responsibilities

  • Takes an active role and partners with the Store Manager in the day-to-day operation of the store, including opening and closing procedures, point of sale operations, inventory management and rotation, merchandising standards, and donations.
  • Assumes responsibility for all day-to-day store operations, including personnel and cash handling duties, in the absence of the Store Manager.
  • Monitors and analyzes key performance indicators to drive store sales and increase profitability in alignment with budget and goals.
  • Schedules store employees to ensure appropriate coverage and coordinates daily team meetings in the absence of the Store Manager.
  • Assists with the hiring, training, and directing of the store team, ensuring proficiency and providing performance coaching.
  • Communicates personnel issues and performance results to the Store Manager, potentially issuing disciplinary warnings and evaluations.
  • Ensures high levels of customer and donor satisfaction through excellent service and community relations.
  • Supports the Store Manager in ensuring Back Room Processing/Warehouse Associates work effectively to meet daily processing goals.
  • Responsible for the supervision, support, and conduct reporting of program beneficiaries if Work Therapy Assignments are in place.
  • Responsible for the protection and security of store currency, inventory, and property, including safe funds, bank deposits, products, equipment, and building security.
  • Ensures the building is secured during non-operating hours with alarm system arming and alert protocol.
  • Assures that safety measures are established and maintained consistent with policy and regulations, and that safety issues are reported immediately.
  • May transfer or be relocated to other stores based on business needs.
  • Completes all tasks as assigned by the District Sales Manager, Command Retail Directors, and Command Administration.
