About The Position

The Storage Facility Material Handler provides assistance in the daily operation of the off-site Retail Storage Facility of the Corning Museum of Glass (Museum). This role involves receiving merchandise from external carriers, preparing merchandise, and processing transfer requests. The handler ensures the proper and timely distribution and transport of merchandise to and from the main campus of the Museum. They also participate in periodic cycle counts and physical inventory of merchandise. With current OSHA forklift certification, the handler operates Storage Facility power trucks to perform their duties.

Requirements

  • High School diploma required
  • Minimum one (1) year experience in a similar role.
  • Current OSHA certification for forklift operation required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft office suite of products
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn Counter Point POS.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Clearly and accurately communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Work with people from a variety of cultures; maintain an appropriate voice for diverse audiences.
  • Process multiple transactions and tasks at a time under the pressure of deadlines.
  • Work independently and as part of a team; strong collaboration skills.
  • Regularly required to operate/use equipment, communicate, and detect/distinguish.
  • Frequently required to remain in a stationary position, move about, and reach for up to 8 hours a day.
  • Occasionally required to ascend/descend and position oneself.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to distinguish color and adjust focus.
  • Required to move/transport up to 50 pounds.
  • Fully acquainted with and comply with all safety policies and procedures of the Corning Museum of Glass.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information related to the Corning Museum of Glass and individuals that may be encountered, either formally or informally, during the normal course of business.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in training of staff members assigned to the Storage Facility as needed.
  • Unload palletized merchandise, materials and supplies from incoming trailers.
  • Reconcile shipments against purchase orders to ensure accuracy.
  • Communicate all receiving issues appropriately.
  • Organize merchandise for handling, as needed.
  • Maintain assigned inventory locations for various classes of products and provide appropriate signage to help in fulfilling stock transfer requests.
  • Assist in preparation of merchandise for internal retail transfers per transfer request documentation, ensure proper POS system entries and produce appropriate paperwork.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in operation of all storage facility power trucks.
  • Load outgoing trucks for merchandise, material, and supply transfers.
  • Operate vertical lift picker at height to pull and process retail product for transfer requests.
  • With appropriate oversight, assist in perpetual (cycle count) and annual physical inventories; communicate issues appropriately.
  • May conduct Store Facility Associate job duties, if trained.

  • Assist in the protection and control of all Museum assets against damage and theft.
