About The Position

The Stockroom Technician plays a vital role in supporting chemistry laboratory instruction by ensuring students and faculty have the materials, equipment, and resources needed for a successful learning experience. Working within a dynamic academic environment, this position provides comprehensive logistical and technical support for upper- and lower-division chemistry laboratory courses. Responsibilities include procuring and preparing supplies, maintaining inventories, managing hazardous waste collection, and supporting laboratory operations. Requirements

  • Equivalent to three years of experience providing instructional support services for a related unit or discipline, or in producing materials or supplies or repairing equipment in a discipline related to specialty area to which assigned.
  • Equivalent to two years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment and in a discipline related to the area to which assigned may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
  • Equivalent to four years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment and in a discipline related to the specialty area to which assigned may be substituted for two years of the required experience.
  • Knowledge of the principles and methods related to performing support services.
  • Knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques related to the discipline and the curriculum.
  • Knowledge of the materials and supplies in the curriculum and the curriculum and their uses.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and schedule activities; ability to operate technical equipment related to the discipline.
  • Ability to maintain records.
  • Ability to adjust and perform simple maintenance of technical and scientific equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Procure, prepare, and distribute laboratory materials, supplies, and equipment to support chemistry instructional programs.
  • Maintain inventory records, databases, and stockroom operations to ensure materials are available and accurately tracked.
  • Collect, store, and manage hazardous waste in accordance with established safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform basic maintenance, adjustments, and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment and scientific instruments.
  • Assist with coordinating laboratory logistics and supporting graduate teaching assistants involved in laboratory instruction.
