About The Position
Under direct supervision of the Inventory Manager and/or Supervisor of Stock Workers at the Staten Island Ferry, this role involves receiving, storing, distributing, and caring for materials, supplies, equipment, and tools. The position requires performing related work as needed.
Requirements
- No formal education requirements.
- No formal experience requirements.
- Must undergo a federal background check as part of the Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) program or already possess a TWIC within 30 days of appointment and maintain it for the duration of employment.
Responsibilities
- Packs, unpacks, counts, weighs, and measures materials, supplies, and equipment.
- Loads and unloads materials at the storehouse and at the point of pick-up, delivery, or distribution.
- Operates elevators and other necessary equipment for loading and unloading.
- Checks materials received against invoices and notes any breakage or discrepancies in quantity.
- Picks supplies from shelves to fill requisitions, including lifting and carrying supplies when necessary.
- Operates electric transports and lift trucks.
- Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of storage facilities and materials.
- Cares for stock.
- Keeps records and assists in preparing inventories.
- Uses computerized inventory system software and handheld optical scanners.
