About The Position

The Fleet Services Division of the Department of Public Works is recruiting for Stock Clerks to join the Fleet Services team in Miller Lake. This is an opportunity to become part of the team that ensures the Public Works Fleet is running smoothly and safely. As the Stock Clerk, you will support the overall safety and efficiency of our provincial road network. You will ensure the efficient operation and flow of procurement and inventory within the Mechanical Shop. This role operates in a fast-paced environment with ever-changing demands and strict deadlines, requiring the ability to multitask and deal with changing priorities. You will prepare part kits for the mechanical shop personnel, update parts lists, and complete monthly reports.

Requirements

  • Completed high school plus a diploma with a minimum of five (5) years of related experience in a mechanical shop or stock room.
  • Knowledge of purchasing policies and procedures.
  • A valid driver’s Class 5 license.
  • Experience with Automotive, Truck and Transport and Heavy Duty Equipment parts.
  • Knowledge of record keeping, procurement, and inventory control.
  • Familiarity with heavy equipment in order to effectively maintain proper inventory levels.
  • Familiarity with computer-based environments including familiarity with electronic parts management systems.
  • Keen eye for detail.
  • Well-developed planning and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Purchase, storage, and issue of inventory for equipment undergoing repairs.
  • Determine proper inventory requirements in consultation with mechanical shop personnel, technical manuals, and manufacturer parts books.
  • Maintain accurate records of quantity, cost, and type of materials received, stocked and issued.
  • Assist with determining annual physical inventory counts including requirements for snow-plow blades, skid chains, tires, antifreeze, and other standing orders.
  • Perform shipping and receiving duties, including preparing, verifying, recording, unloading shipments, preparing items for shipment and perform deliveries as needed.
  • Maintain regular contact with suppliers and vendors to determine the status of shipments and expedite back orders as required.
  • Maintain accurate records and filing systems for shop maintenance.
  • Ensure the security of the stock room.
  • Ensure the stock room is organized and clean to support daily operations.
  • Prepare part kits for mechanical shop personnel.
  • Update parts lists.
  • Complete monthly reports.
