The Vermont Department of Forests, Parks, and Recreation (FPR) is recruiting for a Stewardship Forester in the St. Johnsbury District of the Division of Forests. This role involves guiding stewardship and management efforts in the northeastern region of Vermont, overseeing 130,000 acres of public land as part of a collaborative team of resource professionals. The successful candidate will oversee and contribute to all state lands management activities in the District, including forest management, timber harvest administration, recreation management, boundary maintenance, wildlife habitat improvement, and road improvements. Responsibilities include leading state lands long-range management planning and land administration, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations, managing budgets, and chairing the District Stewardship Team. The position also involves supervising two State Lands Foresters, an Outdoor Recreation Specialist, and seasonal staff, requiring team leadership and supervision skills. Considerable knowledge of forest management, forest ecology, forest-based recreation, land administration and planning, and supervision is necessary. Skills in geospatial technologies, computer technology for information production and interpretation, data analysis, project management, meeting facilitation, public speaking, and budget management are also required. The candidate should possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills, excellent written and oral communication abilities, the capacity to work independently and collaboratively, the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse groups representing competing interests, and the ability to work outdoors in forested environments and inclement weather.
