About The Position

The Steward/Dishwasher is responsible for performing dishwashing duties and kitchen cleaning tasks. This role offers a growth path towards becoming a Cook or Kitchen Operations Supervisor, and potentially a Head of Kitchen Operations or Sous Chef. The primary focus is on maintaining cleanliness and organization within the kitchen environment, ensuring all dishes, utensils, and equipment are properly cleaned and stored. Additionally, the role involves general cleaning of the kitchen area, including floors and trash receptacles, and may include food preparation duties during busy periods or staff shortages. A key aspect of the role is contributing to guest satisfaction by maintaining high standards of cleanliness and service. Safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment and adherence to MSDS and OSHA standards, are paramount. The position also requires performing other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • Previous experience as a kitchen helper or equivalent training is required.
  • Practice safe work habits, use protective equipment, and follow MSDS and OSHA standards.

Responsibilities

  • Wash dishes, glassware, flatware, pots, and pans.
  • Operate dishwashers and other kitchen cleaning equipment.
  • Place clean dishes, utensils, or cooking equipment in storage areas.
  • Maintain clean and tidy work areas, equipment, and utensils.
  • Store supplies such as food items, utensils, or equipment in serving stations, cupboards, refrigerators, or salad bars.
  • Sweep and mop floors and clean trash receptacles.
  • Sort and remove trash, placing it in designated collection areas.
  • Perform food preparation duties in the absence of staff or during peak periods.
  • Consider guest satisfaction scores and work to increase overall and departmental guest satisfaction.
  • Practice safe work habits, use protective equipment, and follow MSDS and OSHA standards.
  • Perform other duties as requested by management.
