About The Position

The Sterilization Technician plays a vital behind-the-scenes role in delivering safe, exceptional patient care. You will be responsible for maintaining infection control standards through the proper cleaning, sterilization, and organization of dental instruments and equipment. This role is essential to the smooth daily operation of our clinical team and directly supports patient safety and OSHA/CDC compliance.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Ability to follow written and verbal infection control protocols
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and safety
  • Dependable, punctual, and a team-oriented attitude
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift/carry trays and instrument cassettes

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in a dental or medical sterilization environment
  • Familiarity with autoclave operation and sterilization monitoring
  • Basic knowledge of dental instruments
  • Experience with Open Dental or similar practice management software

Responsibilities

  • Clean, disinfect, sterilize, and package dental instruments in accordance with OSHA, CDC, and ADA infection control guidelines
  • Operate and maintain autoclave and sterilization equipment; document cycles and perform routine spore testing
  • Inspect instruments for damage, functionality, and completeness; report or remove instruments as needed
  • Maintain organized, fully stocked sterilization and treatment rooms between patients
  • Assist with instrument tracking, tray setup, and restocking of clinical supplies
  • Manage sterilization logs and maintain accurate documentation for compliance
  • Support clinical staff with room turnover to ensure efficient patient flow
  • Follow proper PPE protocols and maintain a safe, clean work environment
  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and continuing education as required
