Requirements

  • One (1) year of experience as a sterile processing tech or surgical tech.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduation from an accredited program for surgical technology or completion of a program for sterile processing; or equivalent training from a military or hospital-based program.
  • Experience as a Sterile Processing Tech.
  • Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.

Responsibilities

  • Disassemble, clean, assemble, and test instrumentation for proper functioning.
  • Employees in a lead capacity Assist with teaching of new hires and work as resource person for other staff as well as other units in hospital.
  • Perform and participate in the decontamination, inspection, cleaning, assembling, and packaging of medical/surgical materials including instruments and equipment according to established standards and procedures to ensure a sterile and functioning supply of materials.
  • Prepare trays and specialty carts for designated areas according to prescribed procedures.
  • Wrap and/or package items for specified areas according to procedures prescribed for those designated areas.
  • Operate instrument tracking systems.
  • Use knowledge of different types of sterilization materials and equipment to choose the appropriate material for sterilization processes.
  • Assist in the maintenance of supply and materials inventory to include documenting usage, issuing, receiving, and recording as assigned.
  • May complete unit/department specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents.
