About The Position

QuarterLine (QL), a Planned Systems International (PSI) company, is seeking a skilled and compassionate Sterile Processing Technician to join their dynamic healthcare team at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three (3) continuous years of recent (one year of which must have occurred within the last year) experience working as sterile processing technician in an SPD setting. The role requires diverse sterile processing experiences including instrument decontamination, assembly and preparation, and sterilization, along with the ability to operate and troubleshoot all processing equipment such as washer-disinfectors, sterilizers, ultrasonic cleaners, and automatic endoscope reprocessors. Knowledge of various surgical instrument specialties like general surgery, urology, robotics, plastic surgery, neurosurgery, eye surgery, ENT, GYN, vascular, and orthopedic surgery is essential. This position offers an opportunity to provide meaningful, hands-on care for service members and their families. The contract Sterile Processing Technician will perform duties similar to military operating room technicians or Government Civil Service Sterile Processing Technicians of comparable experience.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three (3) continuous years of recent (one year of which must have occurred within the last year) experience working as sterile processing technician in an SPD setting.
  • Diverse sterile processing experiences to include instrument decontamination, assembly and preparation, and sterilization.
  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot all processing equipment to include washer-disinfectors, sterilizers, ultrasonic cleaners, and automatic endoscope reprocessors.
  • Knowledgeable in surgical instrument specialties: general surgery, urology, robotics, plastic surgery, neurosurgery, eye surgery, ENT, GYN, vascular and orthopedic surgery.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Completion of a sterile processing/supply training course.
  • Current certification by the International Association of Healthcare Central Services Materials Management or current certification by the National Institute of Health Care Sterile Processing and Distribution Personnel.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross (Web-based classes are not acceptable).
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Required to obtain documentation of required physical testing or a report of a physical examination.
  • Shall be screened for tuberculosis (TB).
  • Provide documentation certifying health requirements such as immunizations, annual vaccinations, and physical examination when required at the time of initial placement.

Responsibilities

  • Perform instrument decontamination, assembly and sterilization for surgical specialties including general surgery, robotics, neurosurgery, plastic surgery, urology, ophthalmology, ENT, OB/GYN, OMFS, vascular and orthopedic surgery.
  • Prepare instrumentation and supplies for surgery as necessary, utilizing various sterilization methods.
  • Monitor and track surgical instruments using a computer automated instrument tracking log/system.
  • Perform record keeping for all sterilization processes.
  • Check expiration dates on all sterile supply items, remove outdated items, and rotate stock on a “first in, first out” basis.
  • Maintain and restock Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) cart exchange program, including transportation of CPR carts in emergency situations and maintaining supplies and documentation.
  • Assemble and disassemble instrumentation and equipment per manufacturer’s instructions for use (MIFU).
  • Perform daily and weekly cleanings and function testing on all equipment.
  • Participate in the Orientation and Training of 68D Students, new employees, medical interns, nursing students, residents, and other medical training programs provided by Tripler Army Medical Center.
  • Assist with oversight of 68D students as needed.
  • Assist in the orientation of staff members and/or training of 68D students.
  • Assist in training staff members and 68D in the operation of sterile processing equipment, handling and assembling instruments and sets, and procedures for decontamination, assembly, and sterilization of equipment and instruments.
  • Be assigned to carry a paging and/or other electronic communication devices used by the operating room personnel.
