About The Position

The Sterile Processing Technician Trainee is an entry-level role that supports the cleaning, sterilization, and preparation of medical instruments used in patient care. In this position, you’ll receive hands-on training while learning how to ensure surgical tools and equipment are safe, sterile, and ready for use. Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Maryland resident
• Individuals eligible for the Maryland Service Year Program (generally ages 18–24)
• No prior experience required; on-the-job training provided
• Willingness to learn sterile processing procedures and pursue certification if required
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Basic computer and documentation skills preferred
• Willingness to learn and grow in a healthcare setting
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Responsibilities

• Receive and transport used surgical instruments from patient care areas
• Clean and decontaminate instruments following strict protocols
• Inspect instruments for cleanliness, damage, and proper function
• Assemble and package instrument trays for sterilization
• Operate sterilization equipment (under supervision)
• Label, store, and distribute sterile supplies to departments
• Maintain accurate records of sterilization processes
• Follow infection control and safety standards at all times
• Keep work areas clean, organized, and compliant
