About The Position

The Sterile Processing Technician is a member of the support staff, within Surgical Services and trained in performing the cleaning, processing and storage of surgical instrumentation/supplies for Surgical Services and other departments within Marshall Medical Center. This position chooses supplies and instrumentation for surgical cases, as necessary, utilizing the physicians’ pick sheets. Maintains the par levels of stock items within the sterile storage area, anesthesia stock room and supply carts within each OR and solution warmers, informing the Charge Nurse of items not available. Maintains good public relations by interacting with patients, visitors, physicians and other staff members in a friendly and professional manner. Assists the department in attaining its goals by assisting other areas within the department as requested. Ensures the safe handling of infectious material to protect all patients and employees.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Current Sterile Processing and Distribution (SPD) Technician certification required
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to maintain records and label items
  • Has the physical and mental health sufficient to accomplish the duties of an SPD Technician
  • Ability to work well with other people in an environment of maximum activity

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Sterile Processing department preferred
