The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for the cleaning, decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, storage, and distribution of reusable surgical instruments and medical equipment. This role ensures the proper functionality and sterility of these items to prevent infection within a healthcare facility, adhering to strict guidelines and protocols established by regulatory agencies. The position involves collecting used and contaminated equipment, manually cleaning supplies, operating and maintaining decontamination and sterilization equipment, and preparing and packing supplies for sterilization. Additionally, the technician will test and report any issues with sterilization equipment, meticulously examine supplies for cleanliness, and prepare instrument trays for medical procedures. This role also includes preparing and delivering necessary equipment for surgeries and examinations, maintaining records of sterilization procedures and equipment maintenance, and managing inventory, including reordering supplies and checking expiration dates. Work is typically performed in a clinical environment, and the employee is accountable for satisfying all job-specific obligations and complying with all organizational policies and procedures.
