Performs a variety of instrumentation decontamination, sterilization, packaging, inventory, and distribution tasks according to established department policies and procedures. This role involves disassembling, cleaning, sterilizing, reassembling, and packaging sterile supplies according to specifications and/or manufacturer instructions. The technician will follow department procedures to use appropriate sterilization methods, operate various sterilization equipment, and adhere to instrument count sheets. They will also cover and rotate trays, follow safety protocols, retrieve used equipment, examine instruments for cleanliness and functionality, identify malfunctioning items, and communicate with perioperative staff. Additionally, the role includes receiving and filling requisitions, transporting sterile supplies, assisting with inventory management, maintaining a contaminant-free work environment, documenting daily activities, and adhering to AORN, AAMI, and Joint Commission standards. Participation in quality control programs and in-service training is also required.
