About The Position

Restore Orthopaedic Surgical Institute is a fast-paced two operating room surgery center specializing in total joint replacement. The building was opened in 2023 and has the latest technology in sterile processing. Full-time technicians will open the department by performing all appropriate equipment testing. As a total joint center, the techs also work closely with the vendor reps to request and process loaner trays as needed. The department is open Monday through Friday, day shift only. This position may require flexing start times from 6:30 to 8:30 AM.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Instrument technician experience, 2 years or equivalent experience
  • Certified Sterile Processing Certificate required
  • Knowledge of standard precautions, aseptic technique and principles of sterilization and instrument handling.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Responsibilities

  • Care and preparation of surgical instruments and supplies according to AAMI standards.
  • Maintain established inventory levels by checking supplies and equipment.
  • Order supplies for the area.
  • Perform appropriate testing of all sterilizers and keep accurate records.
  • Effectively organize time, equipment, supplies and ensure needed items are readily available for the OR based on the daily schedule.
  • Use equipment accurately to ensure no equipment is broken or instrument lost.
  • Confirm that proper aseptic techniques and procedures are used according to accepted standards of practice.
  • Assist in managing inventory of supplies and equipment to maintain availability and stock levels in the instrument room, decontamination room and sterile supply room.
  • Perform daily testing and load specific biological testing as required per policy and maintain sterilization logs.
  • Use manufacturer's IFU's for cleaning and sterilization of instruments.
  • Perform the cleaning, wrapping and sterilization of equipment, utilizing multiple methods to include: steam sterilization and VPRO.
  • Ensure instruments are accounted for upon receipt from the OR.
  • Perform other duties as requested by supervisor.
